I: ‘The roadmap out of lockdown’ (Applies to England only)

Step 1 (Part 1) of the roadmap out of lockdown comes into effect on Monday; Part 2 of Step 1 is scheduled to start three weeks later.

Each step will only be implemented if 4 tests are satisfied:

  • Test 1 The vaccination programme is on schedule
  • Test 2 Hospitalisations and deaths are reduced
  • Test 3 The NHS is not overwhelmed by a surge of new cases
  • Test 4 New variants of concern can be adequately managed

The Government will give 7 days’ notice whether or not the tests are met and we will move to the next stage.

If these tests are not met, we will not move to the next stage.  Therefore, it is advisable to wait before you book holidays abroad as restrictions could continue beyond 21st June – the end of the roadmap.

The dates are the earliest we can expect change.

II: The Budget: Extended help for workers and business owners

a) The Job Retention (‘Furlough’) Scheme will be extended to September.

Employees are entitled to be paid 80% of their normal wages up to £2,500 for all contractual hours not worked.

Employers will be required to contribute 10% towards employees’ furlough pay from August, rising to 20% in September.

Employees must be paid normal pay for any hours worked.

b) Working Tax Credit

WTC claimants will receive a one-off payment of £500

c) The Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) will continue with two more grants available. These have been administered by local authorities:

III: Case rates

Check the case rates in your local area http://ukcovid19.nw.r.appspot.com/

The good news is that case rates in Birmingham have gone down:

We are still at Alert Level 4 so it is still important to maintain 2m distance and observe hands-face-space.
