I: Tier 4 The Government today confirmed that Birmingham will move into Tier 4 at 00:01 tomorrow morning (Thursday 31st December).  Key changes:    II: Schools re-opening  Secondary schools Secondary schools will open as follows:  4th January – open for vulnerable children and children of key workers only 11th January – Years 11 & 13 (exam years) return  18th January – all other years  Primary schools  Primary schools will reopen on Monday 4th January. Universities  Only students who need to attend physical classes involving practical tasks in order to gain qualifications will return in January.  Schools and universities will introduce lateral flow tests.  III: AstroZeneca ‘Oxford’ vaccine approved  The Government approved the Oxford vaccine today. On Saturday night, the Prime Minister announced a national ‘lockdown’, starting Thursday 5th November, ending Wednesday 2nd December. The 3 Tier Alert system has been temporarily suspended.  Parliament still has to approve the new restrictions but here are the key headlines:  1) You must stay at home except for  Work – if you cannot work from home  Education and childcare Shopping for essentials  Exercise  Medical appointments  2) Indoors including private gardens You must not mix with people outside your household or support bubble Exceptions  You may go into someone else’s residence  To carry out emergency work (eg electricians, plumbers) For childcare  For provision of care to a vulnerable person  To visit as a volunteer To assist someone to escape injury or harm 3) Outdoors  Your household may go out for…

From Tuesday 15th September, people living in Birmingham, Sandwell and Solihull may not make social calls to other people in their homes.  You may still enter people's homes to provide care, and you may still keep support bubbles. Read here Social gatherings of more than six people will be illegal in England from Monday 14th September, as the Government seeks to curb the rise in coronavirus cases. It will apply to gatherings indoors and outdoors – including private homes, as well as parks, pubs and restaurants. The new 6 person maximum restrictions will not apply to schools, workplaces or Covid-secure weddings, funerals and organised team sports.
