Welcome to our Summer Bulletin. In our Spring Bulletin, we set out Government help with fuel costs. Since then, the Government has announced a wider set of measures to hep with the cost of living. These are set out below. Help with fuel bills: April - Council Tax Rebate: £150 Council Tax rebate for people living in band A-D properties. I: Roadmap  The Government has pushed the roadmap date back by four weeks until 19 July over Delta variant fears.  It means we are still in step 3 and most remaining curbs on social contact will remain in force until 19th July.  Weddings and receptions can go ahead without a guest number cap; but venues may set limits based on social distancing requirements. Rules on singing and dancing will remain. II. ‘Delta Variant’  DATA The Delta variant, first identified in India, and now accounts for 90% of Covid cases in the UK. A total of 75,953 cases of Delta were sequenced in the UK up to 16 June. It is 2 times more transmissible, with twice the rate of hospitalisation.  Birmingham listed as enhanced response area The number of cases and hospital…

I: National lockdown England has been placed into lockdown again. A summary table is below.  Other key points:  A free school meal system will be maintained for children from low income families The Government has pledged to provide devices and equipment to support learning for pupils from low income families  School exams have been cancelled for this year. The Education Secretary has confirmed that exams will be replaced with teacher assessments.  It is now against the law to leave home unless you have a specified reason. There will be several changes in the next few weeks. The national lockdown will be lifted and every region in England will be placed into one of the 3 Tiers. Birmingham was in Tier 2 High Alert level before lockdown – from 2nd December, it will be placed in Tier 3.  For a 5 day period over Christmas, the Tiers will be lifted and replaced with the ‘Christmas Bubble’ system.  What happens from 28th December will depend on the case rates – we will keep you informed.  27.11.2020 - 01.12.2020 National Lockdown continues  No social mixing between households  Limited social mixing in outdoor public spaces Work from home if possible 02.12.2020 -16.12.2020 Tier 3 applies The Government has announced that Birmingham will be in Tier 3 Very High Alert level from 2.12.2020. …

This week we focus on the main schemes available to help employees, workers, the self-employed and small businesses through the pandemic. Help for workers & employees  Extended Job Retention Scheme (‘furlough’) – for workers unable to work due to partial or full closure of their workplace The Government will cover 80% of wages for hours not worked, up to £2,500 per month. Employers must pay National Insurance and pension contributions. Employees can work part-time - employers must pay normal pay for all hours worked.  The employee must have been on the payroll before 30.10.2020.    The Job Retention Scheme will last until 31.3.2021.
