I. Current situation On 19 July The Government has lifted the remaining Covid restrictions, social distancing, events and gatherings and travel in England.  Birmingham is one of the areas with high numbers of Indian/Delta variant cases There are 12 areas of England where the Delta variant is spreading quickly. Birmingham is on the list. The government says if you live in one of these areas you should read local Covid-19 information and advice. Jobs & Business Support I: Job Support Scheme The new Job Support Scheme which replaces the Furlough Scheme on 1.11.2020 has been adjusted to give more help to businesses that employ staff. IA: Job Support Scheme Open - for businesses operating at reduced capacity IB: Job Support Scheme Closed - for businesses required to close  IC: Job Retention Bonus continues  One-off bonus £1k for each employee retained under the Job Support Scheme.  II: Self-employed grants  2 x  taxable grants based on 40% profits capped at £3,750 - covering start of November- end of January, and February-end of April. New Alert System  On Wednesday 14th October the Government introduced a new 3-tier alert system based on the number of cases in each area. Birmingham, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton are all in Tier 2 - High Level. The poster below sets out what you can and can’t do, but the two key changes are  Households must not mix in any indoor settings anywhere. Households that have formed support bubbles may still mix indoors. Households may meet in private gardens but a maximum of 6 people including children and people in support bubbles. Weekly Update 18/9/2020 New rules for social gatherings  We have produced a quick guide to the new rules that came into force this week.  http://bit.ly/Indoor_OutdoorGathering The ‘Rule of 6’ is national law that came into effect on Monday 14th September; the ban on visits inside people’s homes and gardens applies to people living in Birmingham, Sandwell and Solihull. It came into effect on Tuesday 15th. From Tuesday 15th September, people living in Birmingham, Sandwell and Solihull may not make social calls to other people in their homes.  You may still enter people's homes to provide care, and you may still keep support bubbles. Read here Social gatherings of more than six people will be illegal in England from Monday 14th September, as the Government seeks to curb the rise in coronavirus cases. It will apply to gatherings indoors and outdoors – including private homes, as well as parks, pubs and restaurants.
