Year of Rabbit – Poon Choi feast

A Cantonese highlight of Chinese New Year, is the magnificent and auspicious Poon Choi, which contains up to 20 luxury ingredients served in a big wooden or clay-pot bowl. The dish literally translates to “basin feast” because the dish was originally served in a large basin which filled up with many ingredients (such as pork, beef, lamb, chicken, duck, prawn, mushroom, fish balls, squid, dried shrimp, pigskin, bean-curd, vegetables ,bamboo shoots, assembled into a casserole.

Poon Choi so symbolises teamwork and unity. Cooking Poon Choi requires a lot of manpower among people which unites them together. The cuisine also signifies affluence and prosperity in the coming year.

講粵語的華人在歡慶中國新年時，一大亮點是盛大而吉祥的盆菜，盆菜包含多達 20 種奢華的食材，所有的菜餚盛在一個大木碗或陶罐中。盆菜的字面意思是“盆宴”，因為這道菜最初是在一個砂鍋裏，盛滿許多不同的美食（如豬肉，牛肉，羊肉，雞肉，鴨肉，蝦，蘑菇，魚丸，魷魚，蝦米，豬皮，豆腐，蔬菜，竹筍）。

盆菜因此象徵著團隊合作和團結。製作盆菜需要大量的人手，工作的過程中就把大家團結在一起，美食也預表著來年的富裕和繁榮。
