Welcome to another edition of our weekly update. We hope you’re staying safe and keeping well. We’ve handpicked the latest Covid-19 related news and updates, so you don’t miss anything important from the past seven days.

Covid-19 statistics update:

  • Of the deaths registered in Week 27, 532 mentioned “novel coronavirus (COVID-19)”, the lowest number of deaths involving COVID-19 in the last 15 weeks, accounting for 5.8% of all deaths in England and Wales.
  • As of 9am on 15 July, there have been 12,669,634 tests (either processed or sent out) in the UK. Of these, 9,524,251 tests were processed in total.
    292,552 people have tested positive for coronavirus
  • As of 5pm on 15 July, of those tested positive for coronavirus in the UK, 45,119 have died across all settings.
  • 4918 total cases in Birmingham, approximately 431 per 100,000 people. (data from gov.uk, updated 16th July)
  • 2407 total deaths in hospitals in the West Midlands, as of 15 July.

  • The government currently has no plans to make face coverings mandatory for office workers in England
  • At this stage, the Government is not recommending face covering for schools when classes resume in September
  • The Government will launch an ‘Eat Out To Help Out’ discount scheme in August, giving people across the UK a 50% discount, capped at £10 per person, on meals out from Monday to Wednesday. This is part of the Government’s Support for Business ie the discount is claimed by the catering establishment owner, not the customer.  Note that it does not apply to takeaways.
  • How to make your own face covering

Shielding reminder:

    • You can still get a food box, care and/or medicine delivery until 31 July if you want them, but you must have registered by 17 July. More information
  • Shielding due to come to an end on 31 July. People who have been affected can visit shops, travel and return to Covid-secure workplaces from 1 August.

 

Re-opening reminder:

  • Indoor gyms, indoor swimming pools and sports facilities can re-open from 25 July.
