Chinese New Year 2020 – Volunteer

Chinese Community Centre – Birmingham & China West Midlands 2020 will be jointly holding activities at the Chinese New Year 2020 Celebrations in Birmingham Chinatown on Sunday 26th January 2020. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to offer around 2 hours, between 10 am – 5 pm, on Sunday 26th January 2020.

Location: Birmingham Chinese Community Hub, Thorp St, Chinatown

This year, we will be hosting a range of activities at our Community Hub and hosting a stall on the main street of the celebrations. So volunteers will be based at either the hub or the stall.

Hub Roles will involve supporting the following activities:

  • Calligraphy
  • Lantern Making
  • Chinese Tea Appreciation
  • Fortune Telling
  • Storytelling Corner
  • Tai Chi Demonstration
  • Jianzi Demonstration
  • Lion Head Selfie
  • Paper Dragons, Chinese Drums and other items for sale

Stall Roles available:

  • General Stall Duties: Working with a supervisor to help sell Arts & Crafts and direct public to the Chinese Community Hub for more activities
  • Public Survey: Engage with members of the British Public to get their views surrounding topics on the Midlands and China
  • Photographer

We are seeking volunteers who are interested in Chinese culture and charity work and who are friendly and approachable. Fluency in English is essential. Mandarin or Cantonese would be beneficial but not necessary. We will provide a briefing session beforehand.
